DINODRIFTERS Dev Diary #7: Behaviour Grouping

Hello and welcome to another DINODRIFTERS dev diary!

When it comes to how dinosaurs and other prehistoric species lived, the fossil record and estimation based on similar modern species is all we have to reconstruct their psychology. This is what I'll talk about today.

Animals like Diplodocus move and gather in herds for mutual safety.

I have classified all non-volatile species in DINODRIFTERS into groups. These groups each have an AI matrix assigned to them, giving them fundamental differences in how they operate on the map.

The main AI groups are:

1 - Loners: These animals roam around their territory on their own terms. Be they predator or prey, they are sure in their ability to not die without a fight or flight. Examples include Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus and Ornitholestes.

2 - Pack Animals: These animals prefer to operate with a few others of similar age and ability. Predators hunt in packs and prey in this group flee danger and hope their numbers improve their chances. Examples include Velociraptor, Dryosaurus and Oviraptor.

3 - Herd Animals: These animals are highly social and follow a leader animal, who finds food, water and breeding grounds for the herd. These are always prey and they are typically large animals. Examples include Triceratops, Edmontosaurus and Protoceratops.

There are other matrices for more specialised animals, but I shall go over these another time.

Next diary, I will talk about something truly special in DINODRIFTERS! The power that the rangers in time use to venture into the past: the Drift itself!

Until next time!
